Art With Mrs. Kuhns

Mrs. Kuhns is excited about teaching Art again this year. She has purchased a video series of a “Virtual tour of the Louvre”. For the first semester, the kids will watch about 20 minutes of the video then their art lesson will be based on what they learned. The second semester will focus on learning about the Impressionists, such as Monet, Renoir, Manet, Van Gogh, etc.

Based on feedback from last year’s classes, she has decided to extend class by 15 minutes for the younger kids and 15-30 minutes for the older kids to use the last part of the class period to create something on their own, according to what that day’s lesson was.

The cost and dates will remain the same:

* 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month

* Younger Group: Ages 5 to 2nd grade (from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm)
Cost: $5 p/child

* Older Group: 3rd grade and up (from 1-2:30 pm)
Parents are welcome to take the class, too
Cost: 3rd-5th grade is $5 p/child; 6th grade and up is $8 p/child

Mrs. Kuhns asks that everyone pay for a semester at a time up front, if possible. 2012 classes will begin on January 11 and will meet 9 class sessions. So if you have a child that is 5th grade and younger, your cost will be $45 for January to May. If your child is 6th grade or older, your cost will be $72. (This is actually a great rate compared to many local art classes that typically charge $10-20 p/class.)

If your child took Art last year, only a few additional supplies will be needed this year. If your child is new to Art this year, you will be able to purchase your supplies online through Dick Blick at a huge discount. The supplies are really good quality and can often times be used for several years in a row if your child takes good care of their things. (The supply list is posted below.)

Art Supply List for Heritage Homeschool Co-Op

Mrs. Kuhns also teaches Art for Heartland Home Educators (HHE) and has set up an online art supply list at DickBlick.com. Existing students, please take an inventory of your Easel boxes and replenish supplies as needed. Please order your supplies this summer and write your child’s (ren’s) name (s) or initials on each item with a Sharpie before the first co-op class on August 24th. Here’s how to find the registry:

Go to http://www.dickblick.com/lists/find-blicku/ . Select our State, OK, and you will see Heartland Home Educators in the drop-down menu. You will see HHE in the search results. Adjust your desired quantities accordingly on your order. Your order will ship to you.

· an empty Kleenex box to contain trash

I realize this sounds like a lot of supplies and a large expense, but many will last several years if taken care of and they are offered at a great price on Dick Blick, compared to other Art suppliers such as Hobby Lobby. It really is worth the investment and your child will learn some amazing Art skills from Mrs. Kuhns.
